Baby Shower

Paul's brother and sister-in-law are eight months pregnant with their first baby, a boy. So his sister, Ann, and I decided to throw them a baby shower this weekend. Apparently, baby showers are not that big in France. Kind of like a lot of other parties that Americans have: bridal showers, bachlerette parties, housewarming parties, engagement parties, etc. We seem to like a reason to get together and celebrate something, so marking these milestones has become a normal part of life. This is slowly being seen more and more in European countries, especially England, mostly because of t.v. and movies. So they're not unheard of, but definitely not very common.
So we planned the party and invited everyone, but Elena messed things up by having to go to the hospital last Monday, (early contractions, fine now, but on bed-rest). We decided to go ahead with the party anyway, but just bring it to her instead. So we found tableclothes, napkins, fondant, wrapping paper and candy all in baby blue and got to work. Paul and Ann and I spent Friday in the kitchen making cake, cookies, cupcakes and frosting. Then wrapping presents that night.  Saturday afternoon, we arrived at their apartment with everything in tow and set it all up like travelling party. Here's what it looked like...

Paul made peanut butter chocolate cupcakes.

  1. I laughed at your picture of Pascal; at least he was there, but what was he reading?
