Yerres

Yerres, pronounced "ee-yeer", is a little town located about 11 miles southeast of Paris, and our new home. We've only been there a couple weeks, but already walked the town and feel like we know the area. On our little walk, we learned our mayor is Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, who is running for president this year. We found grocery stores close by about a 10 minute walk away. We saw a nice new (i.e. expensive) pool/gym. And we discovered a big park and trails along the river to go walking or running. I think the biggest perk is that our place is about a block from the train station into Paris, a nice plus on cold days to not have to leave early or walk far to make the train.

At the train station. I like how 'gare' and 'yerres' rhyme.

This is the fancy gym only a 5 minute walk from our place.

Some older Yerres residents playing petanque (bocce ball) in front of the gym.

The lovely trail down by the river.

The is going to be the new movie theater in town. I think it will only play french language films though.

The town hall.

The school on the left is named after Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince. A nice big cathedral on the right.

At the big park we went to, there was a little spot with exotic birds and this one big rabbit.

In one part of the park, there were still some bits left from previous owners when it was privately owned. There was natural ice underground that they built access to and put a nice building on top.

This we think was a little chapel once upon a time.

  1. I guess the precious owners were also previous owners? is the mayor running for president of France? does the rabbit have a name?
