Independance Day

This year marks the first time I've been out of the United States over the 4th of July. In Paris, they don't really notice that anything is different, (I mean, really, why would they), but that meant no music, no fireworks, no bar-b-ques. Luckily, I work with a bunch of Americans who can't let it pass by without noticing. This meant a big picnic was in order, along with showing our American pride all day long. We had only patriotic music playing in the shop all day and everyone wore red, white and blue. We invited all our non-American co-workers to share in some traditional American food and tradition. Here's a quick look at what our picnic on the Champ de Mars consisted of.

Yes those are peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with little flags in them. We also had hot dogs (although a little tweaked European style with baguette for buns), sloppy joes, potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad, cornbread, chips with salsa and guacamole, lemonade, Dr. Pepper, brownies, chocolate chip cookies, Oreos, and two different cakes!! All of it but the Oreos and pop was homemade too.

This was a really good cake with cream cheese frosting and strawberries and blueberries to make the flag.

And our backdrop.
