Catsitting (part 1)

This August, while most of Paris has fled the city on vacation, we remain here working and enjoying the peace and quiet. Enjoying the heat as well. Since we're staying here for the month, we agreed to keep watch over our friends' apartment and their french cat Fifi. It's just for a week, but their place does have a few appeals. For one, our place is a studio, a 23 square meter place. It's cute and we like it, but it is nice to have some room to move around a little. We found out it's weird to say something and realize the other person can't hear you because they're in another room. Also, their place makes me feel short. They're both tall and like to put things up high where the rest of the world can't reach it.
The other perks make up for it though. Full bath, actual kitchen with a big fridge and oven, and washer with dryer are some of the best features. They also left a few gifts to sweeten the week-most notably some pancake mix with syrup! So we had a yummy breakfast Saturday with peach pancakes and juice.

Now Fifi here is the main reason for our visit. The poor girl was left behind while her humans go galavanting around the world lying on the beach sipping cocktails. It was left to us to keep her company and cheer her up until they come back. Right away we found out she's not the most social of cats, disappearing often only to pop up later. She never misses feeding time though. :) Which is a bit odd since we found out she likes her midnight snacks. It wasn't mentioned in the notes they left us, but I've heard stories of Fifi eating leftover baguette left out so I knew we had to put everything away at night. I put the tortillas in a ziplock bag on the counter behind the cereal box and I swear I closed the kitchen door before going to bed last night. This morning we found evidence of misbehavior in the night. Somehow she got the door open and pulled the tortillas and bread onto the floor and chewed through both to have a little snack. We managed to salvage some breakfast for ourselves, though.

Her redeeming qualities help a little. She can be cute, like when she played in the sink for a while and was curious about the water. Also, every time we go to put shoes on to leave, she'll sit in front of the door in protest. We also get a happy greeting when we come home.
