So our little girl is officially in school! First day in France was September 1st, last Thursday, and each school did things a little differently. Ours had the "petit section", that's the young three years olds, come for just an hour the first day and one parent stayed the whole time. Then the second day they came for an hour more, but on their own this time. Other schools didn't have the parents stay on the first day.
Julia had a lot of fun the first day and liked it a lot, but the second day she cried for a while after daddy left. When he went back after an hour, she said, "daddy, I cry very lots". It sounded like she stopped crying after a while, but was sniffly the whole time.
She goes to school at Maternelle Jules Ferry, which is about 5min walk from our house. It's two stories, with classes up through the equivelent of Kindergarten. Her class has 27 kids with one male teacher (Mr. Houe), and an assistant along with aides. There are two other petit section classes, so almost 90 little 3 year olds in her school this year!
Most of the kids will stay all day, having a long break for lunch followed by a nap, but we're starting out with just the morning session from 8:30am-11:30am to see how it goes. As she's not quite 3 yet, she's one of the youngest in the school.
We take turns bringing the morning snack of fruit for her class. Gym time is every Monday when she has to wear sweats and gym shoes. Other than that, I don't know much more about what they do during the day.
Regular days start this week! Maybe we'll hear more. :)
Can grandmas visit school?
ReplyDeleteYes, but you are not allowed inside. Even parents can only drop off at the classroom for the first 6 weeks and then it's outside only. I think you can go to the front desk after that, but for security reasons you can't go anywhere else. Sorry!
