December fun

Paris in December is different than any other time of year. Lights come on, markets spring up all over the city, and vin chaud makes it's appearance. We visited three markets this year, one on the Champs-Ellysees, one in La Defense, and one in our town in Yerres. I think the markets are a big highlight as I love going to the year round markets all over the city. These Christmas themed ones are only here for a month and are full of special treats and decorations to discover.

I also convinced Paul to go up the ferris wheel at Place de Concorde. We also discovered vin chaud blanc, which is hot spiced white wine. I like it better than the usually red wine you find.

We stayed here in France for Christmas and joined the extended family out at Paul's parents' house. We had two big meals, one on Christmas eve and one Christmas day. We celebrated with traditional english poppers which have crowns and toys inside. We also had mince pies and Christmas pudding (but english style, so it wasn't like American pudding). Van took a while to realize he had new toys as the brussel sprouts seemed much more exciting at first. His favorite toy was one we got him at a second hand shop that spins a bell around when you push it.

So all in all a very nice weekend and now we're looking forward to a new year!

  1. Amazing picture taken from atop the Ferris wheel--is it the Champs Elysee?
