A Few Days in London

Brother John is visiting for two weeks and since I had a few days off work, we decided to go over to London for a few days. Our trip started off a little rocky: a traffic jam heading out of Paris, then a 2 hour delay in Calais waiting for the ferry because of stormy weather, then the car breaks down 2 miles into England at about 1am.
After some quick work by the insurance company, we had a tow truck arrive and a taxi to take us the rest of the way to London, all covered by them. We arrived around 4am and fell into bed, sleeping in the next morning. After the morning recovery, we cleaned up and headed into the city to find food and see the sights.

Ready to see the sights!
We walked around Baker Street, then through Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens on the way to Notting Hill and Portobello Road. We called it a day after that.

The next day we started on the Fat Tire Bike Tour with our guide Dylan from Ireland. We saw a horse parade go by and enjoyed seeing the guards on duty. Julia had a great time and even fell asleep in the seat behind me! Everyone loved her. After the tour we had a pint in a pub and then walked around Covent Garden.

On Friday, we headed down to the east end by the Tower of London and up the Tower Bridge, which Julia liked a lot. We walked down by the river and then made our way up the Spitelfield's Market and down Brick Lane where we found some vintage shops and street food.

Julia loved the view from the bridge platform.

We celebrated Paul's birthday that night with cake and indian food. Then we left the next morning by taxi to take us to say goodbye to the car (not worth fixing in the end) and on to the ferry. Paul's dad picked us up and home we went!

This week we'll see lots of Paris!
